As the headline says, yes we are open for Memorial Day 2025. We reflect the same hours as the Valley Fair Shopping Center, which only closes for Easter & Christmas (if that ever changes, we’ll say so on our social media and here on the website).

As mentioned in recent days, we have made some adjustments to the layout of the arcade, putting SpaceWarp 66 back near the front and swapping that space with one of our exA-Arcadia cabinets. Speaking of that, we recently added a brand new game in the form of JITSU SQUAD FEATURING THE SAMURAI PIZZA CATS. This is an exclusive redesign of the existing Jistu Squad console game not only plays quite differently (much more action-packed and faster paced), it also has exclusive content as mentioned in the title with The Samurai Pizza Cats. We are the ONLY arcade in Utah with this game (and all of the other exA games 😉 )

Jistu Squad Featuring The Samurai Pizza Cats on exA-Arcadia

Also as a quick note – we are working hard to get some games working which have been broken for a while now. In that effort, we’ve pulled Bubble Bobble 3 from the floor but replaced that with Metal Slug 6 – now working like it should! We’ll get BB3 back out once we can repair the CRT monitor (same thing with Toobin’).

We also are hoping to bring air hockey back to the arcade at some point during the summer, although there are no details to pass along on that quite yet as we haven’t decided which machine we will go with at the moment…but stay tuned!

Namco’s PAC-MAN is 45 years old as of May 22nd, 2025, and if you live in northern Utah, then the best place to celebrate the arcade industry’s lovable mascot is at Arcade Galactic!

Nobody else in Salt Lake has as much PAC-MAN as we do as we’ve got:

Pac-Man 25th Anniversary (featuring the original PAC-MAN game as well as Ms. Pac-Man)
Ms. Pac-Man (original cab with Turbo software installed)
Namco Classic Collection Vol. 2 (Also has the original Pac-Man & the unique Pac-Man Arrangement)
Pac-Man Battle Royale Tournament Edition (special version of the software that was never widely released)

That’s six different ways to enjoy the game and the best part is that all of them except for Battle Royale are only 25¢ to play – just like they were 45 years ago! Good luck at finding anything else that’s the same price as it was almost half a century ago. Battle Royale is only 50¢ per person, so that won’t break your bank either. It’s also worth checking out the Arrangement game found on Namco Classic Collection Vol. 2, as that is a hidden gem that plays really well, but few people know about it.

Also to mark the day, we did a little bit of re-arranging on our Namco game cabs. Now, all three are snuggled up against each other, and one of our banners was moved. It’s hard to miss all of this classic, dot-eating goodness now:

Namco is also celebrating their mascot character all around the world. Check out this music video to celebrate the 45th anniversary. Thanks to Arcade Galactic, you can still literally insert a coin for something amazing!

We are open every day, M-Th 11am-8pm, Fri: 11a-9pm, Sat. 10a-9pm, and Sundays 12p-6pm. No entry fee and we operate on tokens that are 25¢ per coin.

News has been quiet here on the site, with this being an unusually slow Summer. In some ways, the year has been even slower on some months than we saw back in 2020. Unlike most places though, we haven’t raised our prices, so you’re still saving a lot of money on fun compared to our competitors – there’s no entry fee either, so you don’t get locked in to having to spend a minimum.

That isn’t stopping us though! Let’s provide an update to some changes that have hit the arcade over the past few weeks.

We have made several layout changes of where certain games are, while also doing some small swaps. One of those rearrangements is to place many of our “indie games” (independently made arcade titles) into a row all next to each other. This includes games that are unique and so rare that either no where else in Utah has them, or no where else in the world has one:

The games that have returned to the arcade are:

Meanwhile, our 4-player exA-Arcadia, a Neo Geo MVS, and the Family Guy Bowling have gone to a private break room location.

We do have a few games to repair, unfortunately with the big slowdown in business, that is making it more difficult to catch up on certain things, as prices for parts are more expensive than they have ever been.

Also where it is October, that means it’s the perfect month to stop in and play for thrills! We have several games that match up perfectly with the Halloween season, such as:

  • The Walking Dead Arcade (Raw Thrills)
  • House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn (Sega)
  • Luigi’s Mansion Arcade (Sega)
  • Enter The Gungeon: House of the Gundead (Griffin Aerotech)
  • The Addams Family pinball (Williams)
  • GhostBusters (Stern Pinball
  • Jurassic Park Arcade (Raw Thrills)
  • Aliens Armageddon (Raw Thrills)
  • Outnumbered (LAI Games)
  • The Spectre Files: Deathstalker (Galloping Ghost / Midway)
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Midway)

Then games like Street Fighter II, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman, Gauntlet Dark Legacy, Minecraft Dungeons Arcade, even Pitfall II all match up pretty well with the season, even if they aren’t “horror-specific.”

On October 19th, we will be holding the Fantastic Fabulous Pinball Competition, where among the prizes you can win a translite from The Walking Dead pinball machine by Stern Pinball.

We are also selling some equipment off, including two of our old change machines, an old crane we have, and some game boards we have no use for, such as an Orange Marvel Vs. Capcom that works.

We appreciate your business and hope to see you soon! Find us this and every autumn at the Valley Fair Shopping Center, we’re over by JCPenny and Ulta.

June 8th, 2024 marks two great anniversaries – the release of Columbia Pictures’ Ghostbusters back in 1984, and its the 16th year since opening our doors. Growing up, Ghostbusters was one of my favorite movies, although I did not realize that the dates collided when we had opened – it was just a timing coincidence!

Anyways, thank YOU, the customers, for getting us from a location where the management at the time was just trying to get rid of us (outside of the mall, next to nobody), to being known as “the arcade at the mall” where we’ve been bringing the fun at our present spot since 2017.

-Major milestones Over 16 Years-

  • Opened June 8th, 2008 on the outside of the Valley Fair Mall near Red Robin. We had around 25 arcade games, 2 pinball machines, an air hockey table, and a PC LAN center with 6 machines. We were one of the only locations in the world to feature the never-released game, The Act: An Interactive Comedy – which we still have today!
  • Summer 2009 – We moved into the mall, down the hallway that used to connect to Mervyn’s, across from Ryan’s Jewelry. The PC LAN had already been expanded to 8 systems, but the space was rather cramped so we couldn’t expand our selection much.
  • 2011 – We were the only location in the Western multi-state area to bring in Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition; We also were one of the only locations in the world to bring in an English version of Dariusburst Another Chronicle by Taito.
  • 2012 – Due to major reconstruction at the Valley Fair Mall, our location was again demolished, but we were able to move to a new spot that was in the main corridor of the mall. That spot was originally 3x the size of the game area we had open to the public, but construction a couple of years later put in a building that reduced that significantly, so we never expanded within the space. Major games we grabbed while in that location: Jurassic Park Arcade, Star Wars Battle Pod, Fast & Furious: Super Cars, Star Trek Pinball, Transformers: Human Alliance, Dance Dance Revolution, Batman, and Cruis’n Blast. We did close the PC LAN at this point due to lack of interest.
  • 2014 – Furnished part of the arcade space at the then-named Salt Lake Comic Con/FanX. We appeared there for several years, often times being the only arcade entertainment in the space. We did so up until 2019.
  • 2017 – Moved to what is our present location; a space that used to be Kay Bee Toy Stores when the owner of Arcade Galactic was a kid. This gave us much more space to work with, allowing us to greatly expand our game selection to over 60 games. We’ve added these titles while there: Maximum Tune 5DX+, The Walking Dead, House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn, Luigi’s Mansion Arcade, Step ManiaX, Minecraft Dungeons Arcade, 3x exA-Arcadia systems, NBA Hoops basketball, 4x NIRIN racers, and our biggest selection of pinball machines ever, currently with The Addams Family, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Mandalorian, Terminator 3, and more.
  • Summer 2017 – Hosted a special COSMOTRONS event, held by the developer of the game who did a nationwide tour. We did purchase the game but eventually sold it off to another Utah operator.
  • 2019 – Began hosting some locally organized pinball tournaments, thanks to SLAP and others. This was our best year ever.
  • 2020 – We were forced to change our name from Game Grid Arcade to something else, even though we had registered the name long before a different company who had nothing to do with video games did. To avoid a lawsuit we could have won but couldn’t afford (especially during 2020), we changed our name to ARCADE GALACTIC.
  • October 2020 – Opened up our second location at the Newgate Mall in Ogden. We took some games from West Valley up there, while at the time there were some great deals on equipment that allowed us to offer some unique things up there, such as the aforementioned House of the Dead and Luigi games. Unfortunately business never managed to perform better than in West Valley and due to some other life circumstances, we closed this on the last day of 2022.
  • Summer 2022 – Got our hands on two prototype/early arcade games, purchased from the original creator of said titles: Toobin’ (1988) and Hydra (1990) by Atari Games. The Toobin has a serial number of 2; Hydra was “Proto #3” and looks different than the production version. That said, Hydra is exceedingly rare, with only 200 of those cabinets ever being produced. Both games were signed by the game designer, Dennis Harper
  • Winter 2023 – Furnished the arcade space for Beehive Meals‘ Christmas Party
  • Summer 2024 – Began beta testing two locally designed games, Asteroids Recharged and Avian Knights.

Thank you again for your support! We’ll see you at the arcade!

Arcade Galactic is excited to announce that we are the first and exclusive test location for a brand new Atari arcade game! You might remember that when we opened and for several years afterwards, we had an Asteroids Deluxe. Now, we are testing out Asteroids Recharged by Atari and Alan-1 Inc.

The Asteroids Recharged arcade game is based upon the home console title of the same name. However, many changes are being made to the arcade version, many of which will be implemented during the test period. YOU can also help shape the game that it will become, by coming in and giving it a play, then sharing your feedback.

If you’ve never heard of Asteroids, then you might be younger. That’s ok! Asteroids is the best selling arcade title ever produced by Atari. Released at the very end of 1979, it became a cultural gaming icon in the 1980s.

The Asteroids Recharged Cabinet

The cabinet we have is the 3-player version, which comes with a 55″ monitor. The game uses the same control layout as the original Asteroids (Left/Right rotate; Hyperspace; Thrust; Fire), but with LED lit buttons. The game also features wind & rumble effects and there’s a pinball knocker that hits the cabinet when certain events take place.

How Long Is It Going To Be At Arcade Galactic?

Asteroids Recharged will be in the testing phase from now until June. We encourage repeat play as well, since the game will see software updates that changes up how the game works. It would be very helpful to hear feedback on whether or not those changes are good or bad.

It is also worth noting that this game was built right here in Utah by a local company, Alan-1. They are made up of retro gaming enthusiasts, who truly enjoy gaming as it existed in the 1980s. They have more on the docket for arcade gaming, so be sure to stay tuned!

Where can I find you guys?

Arcade Galactic is located inside of the Valley Fair Shopping Center on the north end of the mall. We are fairly close to where Ulta and JCPenny are located. You will usually hear us before you see us. To find the mall, it is located in the heart of West Valley City, right across from City Hall on 3500 S. and 2700 W. You can also reach it via I-215 at the 3500 S. West exit.

Perhaps you’ve visited us in the real-world, or you haven’t had the chance to as our location is no where near where you live. Now, thanks to the Meta Quest 2 game, Arcade Legend VR, you can visit our new virtual location and play some unique indie games in the process!

What is Arcade Legend VR?

Build and manage your own arcade in Arcade Legend. Play officially licensed arcade games with friends in VR and win tickets and prizes. Check out the latest trailer to see the game’s recent updates including bowling, licensed DLC featuring the Big Bass Wheel, and Skee-Ball Extreme.

The Arcade Legend VR Retro Update

As of today, March 7th, Arcade Legend VR released the “Retro Update,” which includes the aforementioned addition of the Arcade Galactic venue to the game. Think of this as a second venue – it is not a 1:1 recreation of our existing site. Due to the nature of game licensing, it can’t feature all of the Namco, Sega, Taito, Raw Thrills games that we have, however, it carries with it the same spirit that we strive for in our physical location.

What Games Can I Play?

The current line-up features titles that have been licensed from the Pico8 platform. These are retro in style and gameplay, feeling just like a game would from the ’80s. In this sense, the virtual venue for Arcade Galactic is like an expanded “Classic Corner” that we have, where you can find and play games that came from a different era. We have often and still operate “indie” arcade games, along with super-rare retro games. The VR version encapsulates that vibe, where the focus is on fun while gaming instead of all on tickets and prizes.

How Does It Work?

Consult this handy quick guide on how to use the joystick controls that you come across within the virtual world. It’s pretty easy and is the next best thing to handling physical ones!

Want to learn more? Check out the Arcade Legend VR website.

You can also follow them on X/Twitter, where they post frequent updates.

Leap Day sale, Arcade Galactic

Happy Leap Day! Celebrate the day that only shows up once every four years by playing some* of our video arcade games for 1/4th less than usual!

Games that will be only 1 token for Feb. 29th:

*Certain games like Big Buck Hunter Reloaded do not allow us to change the price as they lock it in at 4. There was also an issue in changing Maximum Tune 5DX+, so we were unable to include it as originally intended. This sale also does not apply to prize machines or games that were not already set to 4 like games at 3 or 5.

Not visited us before? No better time than this Leap Day! Find us inside the Valley Fair Mall, North wing near JCPenny.

Another new arrival at our place that no one else in the state happens to have, the brand new arcade version of Enter The Gungeon can now be enjoyed as a part of our light-gun game selection!

This game is a unique version of Enter The Gungeon that is exclusive to arcades. Instead of being a dual-stick shooter, this is instead a light-gun game based upon the ETG universe. Players “enter the gungeon” and must immediately defend themselves by using their light-gun controller. As you play, you will collect new guns (up to 40 weapons) which have different force feedback effects. The gungeons are also different every time you play, meaning that this game never gets old to explore!

It also features interactive, destructible environments and a graphical style that screams mid-90s gaming – with some modern touches. Shoot at the targets which appear when you are being attacked to dodge, uncover secrets, fight bosses and aim to get the top high score!

The game is 4 tokens to start, 2 to continue and can be enjoyed by 1-2 players. Find us inside of the Valley Fair Mall near JCPenny (north end of the mall) to experience this awesome arcade title!

Do you enjoy classic games like Popeye, Donkey Kong and Mario Bros.? What if I told you there was a game that combines elements of all three games into one new original piece?

Then you might enjoy Donut Dodo Do!

Donut Dodo Do! by Pixel Games and exA-Arcadia

Originally created for PC & consoles, Donut Dodo captures the look and feel of an arcade game produced in 1983. The objective is to control Chef Billy to collect all of the donuts on the level, while avoiding enemies like rats, fireballs, and…toilets. Once you collect all of the small donuts, you can grab the giant donut – being protected by the Dodo Bird – to move on to the next level.

Donut Dodo Do! is a new arcade version that keeps the gameplay intact, while adding some exclusive features! These include a unique stage, in-game side art created by Makoto Yabe, and the addition of a two-player co-op mode where you can play as Billy’s wife Bella and grab those donuts together.

This fun and retro-style game is ONLY found in Utah at Arcade Galactic – in fact, we’re the first location in the entire USA to grab it! Find it on our exA-Arcadia cabinet right next to the Neo Geo MVS, where it’s playable in glorious 4K resolution.
