The exA-Arcadia Multi-Game Arcade System
What is the exA-Arcadia?
Back in 1990, SNK released a platform that became a staple of many arcades around the world, and a symbol of arcade gaming throughout the decade. Called the Neo Geo MVS, this platform allowed arcades to get their hands on more games at a lower cost than normal, increasing their variety. These cabinets also often allowed 2, 4 or 6 games to be installed in a single cabinet.

Fast forward to 2021 and the exA-Arcadia is bringing the Neo Geo MVS idea back to arcades with their powerful and versatile platform. It uses a customized Intel & nVidia PC that is on par with modern consoles in terms of power, delivering 4K gaming at 60 frames per second. It also has been designed to have the lowest input lag in the industry (this means that the reaction times in-game are as close to playing on an old school CRT as possible).

Each exA system allows up to four game cartridges to be installed at one time; As of July 2025, they have a total of 42 games available for the platform, with many more on their way in the coming years. This is also resurrecting a number of genres that have long been dead or mostly ignored by major manufacturers in recent decades, such as 1v1 fighting games, scrolling shooters (i.e. shmups), platformers, run ‘n gunners, beat ’em ups and more. This is allowing arcades like ours to expand their offerings, picking up various brand new games when otherwise the costs would be too large to warrant getting more than one or two a year. Here are what the cartridges look like:

We received our first exA system in January 2020, right before the pandemic pummeled the world. We purchased it with Aka & Blue Type-R (a shmup) and The Kung Fu Vs. Karate Champ (a fighter). We had a custom cabinet made for it, which included a 65″ 4K gaming TV, and since then have added various games to it. As of January 2022, we own seven exA titles, although we can only have four installed at once per cabinet; Scroll down further for more details on the currently installed games.
We are the ONLY arcade in Utah with an exA system and presently have two cabinets on location: A 2-player model w/ a 4K screen and the more compact EXA ARC-1.
One important aspect to note about exA titles is that while many are ported from existing PC, console or mobile games, all titles come with exclusive additions and often major changes. This can include game modes, game balancing, characters, stages, music and more. Thus if you own one of these games on a home gaming device, it will play differently in the arcade edition.
Please note that as of June 2025, we sold our Kung Fu Vs. Karate Champ and Chaos Code EXA to Orono Arcade in Maine, but we have replaced it with Omen of Sorrow: Arising Chaos and possibly one other game here soon. Read more below!

Samurai Shodown V Perfect
The ultimate version of Samurai Shodown is here and the only place you’ll find it in Utah is at Arcade Galactic.
Originally designed in the early 2000s but cancelled at the last minute, this was rediscovered and released on the Nintendo Switch in 2018.
The arcade version takes things a step further, providing for an experience that was originally intended for arcades. Only in this version do you have a complete English translation, lightning fast input response (0.3 frames of input lag vs. Switch’s 5.0), Overkill fatalities and no censorship.
Available for 1-2 players; 2 tokens per player

DONUT DODO DO!
Control Billy & Bella to grab those donuts in this retro-style platforming adventure! Donuts are scattered around the level and you must collect the small ones first, then grab the giant one being protected by the dodo bird.
Mice, toilets, and fireballs will get in your way in the quest for the high score in this game that is like Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., and Popeye mixed into one.
The arcade version features an exclusive level, along with simultaneous 2-player support!

Gimmick! EXACT*MIX
Released at the very end of the NES’ lifespan, Sunsoft’s cute and unique platformer Gimmick is somewhat obscure, but worth of attention. This release marks an outstanding HD remake that is only found on the exA. Play with NES graphics & music if you want, or enjoy the colorful HD remaster with a remixed soundtrack. The meticulous design was tested to ensure that this feels exactly like the NES original. It also features a new Time Attack mode, which has been very popular with Japanese players.
Available for 1 player; 2 tokens to play.
Note that there are no plans for this exact remake to be ported to consoles like the Nintendo Switch, making this a true treat for arcade players. You won’t find this game anywhere else in Utah (or most of the USA, at the moment!).
EXA ARC-1

Jitsu Squad Featuring The Samurai Pizza Cats
The Beat ‘Em Up is back and badder than ever with JITSU SQUAD. The arcade version also stars Speedy from The Samurai Pizza Cats anime!
Think of this like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Double Dragon, but with tons more action and bad-guy slashing mayhem. It has been completely reworked from the console version released in 2022, featuring improved graphics, more responsive controls, additional voice acting, completely revamped gameplay with a focus on action, and of course, The Samurai Pizza Cats. This is the ultimate version of the game and plays far better than the console versions do – with content not available on those home platforms.

Omen of Sorrow: Arising Chaos
A brand new fighter by AONE games, this pits twelve legendary monsters against each other to see who is the greatest villain in history. Is that the vampire or the werewolf? The mummy or the headless horseman? The hunchback or the jorogumo?
Omen of Sorrow is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and offers the sharpest graphics of any game in our venue. This arcade version of the game comes with enhanced graphics (sharper with full AA) running at 60FPS and is twice as responsive/fast. It also includes new voice work and uses arcade controls.

Nippon Marathon Turbo Hyper=Running
Perhaps you’ve heard of or played this wacky party game on PC, but now you can play the TURBO version that was specially crafted for this arcade release.
The core of the game is you are running a marathon across a crazy obstacle course, like you might find on Japanese TV. You pick one of several weird characters – two of which were made just for this version – then race! There are several courses and you’ll need to jump or duck to get ahead. Grab power-ups to gain a temporary advantage against your opponents!

Blazing Chrome AC
Fans of titles like SUPER CONTRA and METAL SLUG can rejoice, as this brings run ‘n gun excitement back to arcades! Run and blast hordes of robotic bad guys and experience explosive boss battles. The Future of exA-Arcadia?
There is much more in store for the system in the coming months and years, which will see many old game genres and recognizable franchises make their way back to the arcades where they belong. We will keep a steady eye on the developments for this system, but would also like to hear what YOU want to play on it.
You can visit the official exA-Arcadia website here.
We would really like to get a second exA cabinet so that both locations can have one, but that all depends on interest. Let us know what you think!
