We have a hot new game available for you to enjoy, a new 1-on-1 fighting game by the name of OMEN OF SORROW: ARISING CHAOS. Twelve legendary monsters across horror history clash! Determine who is the strongest! Is it the Vampire or the Werewolf? Frankenstein or the Headless Horseman? The Hunchback or The Mummy? Each battle carries with it the stuff of legends, and each character’s unique play style comes with a lot of depth that rewards seasoned players. Don’t worry though, if you’re a button masher, you can still have fun with this one too.

Omen of Sorrow: Arising Chaos by AONE header image showing the cast of characters

This game is currently situated inside of our EXA ARC-1 game cabinet. We changed the screen orientation back to horizontal, and have also put Jitsu Squad Feat. The Samurai Pizza Cats into the same machine. We still have DoDonPachi True Death EXA Label, we’ve just moved it over to the 4K EXA cab with the giant screen. This game is 3 tokens to play, as it is a modern game with high-end graphics (likely the best graphics out of all the games we currently have).

For those who are curious about what is different or better about this particular version of the game, here’s a quick list:

  • 3 Frame input lag response – The fastest, most responsive version of the game in existence!
  • Improved graphics with full AA, 60 FPS, and faster load times
  • Real arcade controls
  • New voices and artwork, the latter produced by TEKKEN artist Junny
  • Another Arcade Galactic exclusive, as no one else in Utah has this game!

Besides all that, playing these types of games is always better in the arcade, with your opponent right at your side, instead of against some anon online where network lag reduces the enjoyment of such games.

Omen of Sorrow: Arising Chaos gameplay, fight between Dr. Hyde and Adam (Frankenstein's Monster)

Omen of Sorrow: For the hardcore players

If you are a part of the “Fighting Game Community” (FGC), then Omen of Sorrow has been designed to reward you. The game comes with a resource game mechanic that rewards offensive and defensive play, or punishes poor players. There is also the unusual inclusion of a Training mode – our only fighter in the arcade with such a mode – that allows you to really test the characters out and get a feel for their movesets and mechanics.

Per the exA website: “Besides the usual special, EX and super moves, players are rewarded for aggressive play by gaining resources to be able to cancel any move into a special move to create devastating combos or activate Blessed mode to have access to this cancel ability for a limited amount of time. While players can escape from the opponent’s oppressive offense by using guard canceling counters, tech recoveries and escapes, they are punished for overly defensive play causing them to fall into a Doomed state which limits their available move set and prevents them from guarding consecutive attacks. Utilize the in-depth Training mode to find the ultimate combo & practice how to escape situations!

Omen of Sorrow: Arising Chaos Imhotep EX attack

If we find interest, then we will be happy to host some tournaments for this game in the near future. Come in to give this game a play, and bring a friend or two!

Gird your loins Adventurers! We are pleased to announce that the Premium Edition of Stern Pinball’s Dungeon’s & Dragons: The Tyrant’s Eye is coming soon to Arcade Galactic. While we are not the first venue in Utah to get this new D&D game, we are the only place in the state with the Premium Edition, as of the time of this writing.

We are truly grateful to PrimeTime Amusements for setting us up with a great deal on this game. We are also getting a new air hockey table from them, but anticipate receiving the pinball machine first. We’ll post a story about the air hockey table once that is closer to shipping. As a note, if you are looking to add some pinball to your collection, we are currently selling our The Mandalorian [Pro] and Star Trek [Premium] machines.

Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant’s Eye is one of the most deep and rewarding pinball machines ever created. You become a chosen member of the Dragonshield Guild, working to defeat the dragon queen Tiamat, who is hatching a plan to rise again. These events trigger the War of Dragons, with Xanathar, Balinor and Sammaster all fighting for power. Players will experience the D&D’s fantasy world under the glass, fusing pinball with the iconic franchise like never before and you can save your character progress by using the free Stern Insider Connected app on your phone.

The Premium version of the game comes with unique art and some extra goodies that the Pro models of the game don’t have. This includes a fully animatronic Rath The Relentless dragon toy that spits out pinballs, a Rising Dungeon drop scoop that takes the player into the dungeon; a Dragon diverter to “feed the dragon,” and eight pinballs instead of six.

As of this posting, we don’t know exactly when the game will arrive, but it will definitely arrive in the month of July. Stay tuned to our social media channels (Facebook / X / YouTube) for news on its arrival. Download Stern’s Insider Connected app if you haven’t already to be ready to save your character so you can jump right in!

As the headline says, yes we are open for Memorial Day 2025. We reflect the same hours as the Valley Fair Shopping Center, which only closes for Easter & Christmas (if that ever changes, we’ll say so on our social media and here on the website).

As mentioned in recent days, we have made some adjustments to the layout of the arcade, putting SpaceWarp 66 back near the front and swapping that space with one of our exA-Arcadia cabinets. Speaking of that, we recently added a brand new game in the form of JITSU SQUAD FEATURING THE SAMURAI PIZZA CATS. This is an exclusive redesign of the existing Jistu Squad console game not only plays quite differently (much more action-packed and faster paced), it also has exclusive content as mentioned in the title with The Samurai Pizza Cats. We are the ONLY arcade in Utah with this game (and all of the other exA games 😉 )

Jistu Squad Featuring The Samurai Pizza Cats on exA-Arcadia

Also as a quick note – we are working hard to get some games working which have been broken for a while now. In that effort, we’ve pulled Bubble Bobble 3 from the floor but replaced that with Metal Slug 6 – now working like it should! We’ll get BB3 back out once we can repair the CRT monitor (same thing with Toobin’).

We also are hoping to bring air hockey back to the arcade at some point during the summer, although there are no details to pass along on that quite yet as we haven’t decided which machine we will go with at the moment…but stay tuned!

We are excited to finally bring Capcom’s 1999 arcade masterpiece, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, to Arcade Galactic.

Many years ago, we had got our hands on a Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact board. However, when anyone who was into Street Fighter III (SF3 from here on out), they wanted the superior 3rd Strike (3S). The trouble was finding a working board at a reasonable price, which didn’t really come along when we made a search.

Fast forward to 2024, and local Arcade Hero Lemony Vengeance was involved with the 3rd Strike tournament at EVO 2024. The goal was to set a new world record by bringing together the most SF33S boards together in the same room. Lemony not just borrowed our board, but gave it an upgrade to 3S; the record was set and there was an awesome tournament to accompany the feat.

What else ya got besides 3rd Strike?

Now that board is back under our care and ready for you to enjoy at Arcade Galactic – the only place in West Valley City that offers the following 1v1 fighting games under one roof:

Find us inside the Valley Fair Shopping Center, north wing close to JCPenny and Ulta Beauty.

News has been quiet here on the site, with this being an unusually slow Summer. In some ways, the year has been even slower on some months than we saw back in 2020. Unlike most places though, we haven’t raised our prices, so you’re still saving a lot of money on fun compared to our competitors – there’s no entry fee either, so you don’t get locked in to having to spend a minimum.

That isn’t stopping us though! Let’s provide an update to some changes that have hit the arcade over the past few weeks.

We have made several layout changes of where certain games are, while also doing some small swaps. One of those rearrangements is to place many of our “indie games” (independently made arcade titles) into a row all next to each other. This includes games that are unique and so rare that either no where else in Utah has them, or no where else in the world has one:

The games that have returned to the arcade are:

Meanwhile, our 4-player exA-Arcadia, a Neo Geo MVS, and the Family Guy Bowling have gone to a private break room location.

We do have a few games to repair, unfortunately with the big slowdown in business, that is making it more difficult to catch up on certain things, as prices for parts are more expensive than they have ever been.

Also where it is October, that means it’s the perfect month to stop in and play for thrills! We have several games that match up perfectly with the Halloween season, such as:

  • The Walking Dead Arcade (Raw Thrills)
  • House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn (Sega)
  • Luigi’s Mansion Arcade (Sega)
  • Enter The Gungeon: House of the Gundead (Griffin Aerotech)
  • The Addams Family pinball (Williams)
  • GhostBusters (Stern Pinball
  • Jurassic Park Arcade (Raw Thrills)
  • Aliens Armageddon (Raw Thrills)
  • Outnumbered (LAI Games)
  • The Spectre Files: Deathstalker (Galloping Ghost / Midway)
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Midway)

Then games like Street Fighter II, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman, Gauntlet Dark Legacy, Minecraft Dungeons Arcade, even Pitfall II all match up pretty well with the season, even if they aren’t “horror-specific.”

On October 19th, we will be holding the Fantastic Fabulous Pinball Competition, where among the prizes you can win a translite from The Walking Dead pinball machine by Stern Pinball.

We are also selling some equipment off, including two of our old change machines, an old crane we have, and some game boards we have no use for, such as an Orange Marvel Vs. Capcom that works.

We appreciate your business and hope to see you soon! Find us this and every autumn at the Valley Fair Shopping Center, we’re over by JCPenny and Ulta.

June 8th, 2024 marks two great anniversaries – the release of Columbia Pictures’ Ghostbusters back in 1984, and its the 16th year since opening our doors. Growing up, Ghostbusters was one of my favorite movies, although I did not realize that the dates collided when we had opened – it was just a timing coincidence!

Anyways, thank YOU, the customers, for getting us from a location where the management at the time was just trying to get rid of us (outside of the mall, next to nobody), to being known as “the arcade at the mall” where we’ve been bringing the fun at our present spot since 2017.

-Major milestones Over 16 Years-

  • Opened June 8th, 2008 on the outside of the Valley Fair Mall near Red Robin. We had around 25 arcade games, 2 pinball machines, an air hockey table, and a PC LAN center with 6 machines. We were one of the only locations in the world to feature the never-released game, The Act: An Interactive Comedy – which we still have today!
  • Summer 2009 – We moved into the mall, down the hallway that used to connect to Mervyn’s, across from Ryan’s Jewelry. The PC LAN had already been expanded to 8 systems, but the space was rather cramped so we couldn’t expand our selection much.
  • 2011 – We were the only location in the Western multi-state area to bring in Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition; We also were one of the only locations in the world to bring in an English version of Dariusburst Another Chronicle by Taito.
  • 2012 – Due to major reconstruction at the Valley Fair Mall, our location was again demolished, but we were able to move to a new spot that was in the main corridor of the mall. That spot was originally 3x the size of the game area we had open to the public, but construction a couple of years later put in a building that reduced that significantly, so we never expanded within the space. Major games we grabbed while in that location: Jurassic Park Arcade, Star Wars Battle Pod, Fast & Furious: Super Cars, Star Trek Pinball, Transformers: Human Alliance, Dance Dance Revolution, Batman, and Cruis’n Blast. We did close the PC LAN at this point due to lack of interest.
  • 2014 – Furnished part of the arcade space at the then-named Salt Lake Comic Con/FanX. We appeared there for several years, often times being the only arcade entertainment in the space. We did so up until 2019.
  • 2017 – Moved to what is our present location; a space that used to be Kay Bee Toy Stores when the owner of Arcade Galactic was a kid. This gave us much more space to work with, allowing us to greatly expand our game selection to over 60 games. We’ve added these titles while there: Maximum Tune 5DX+, The Walking Dead, House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn, Luigi’s Mansion Arcade, Step ManiaX, Minecraft Dungeons Arcade, 3x exA-Arcadia systems, NBA Hoops basketball, 4x NIRIN racers, and our biggest selection of pinball machines ever, currently with The Addams Family, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Mandalorian, Terminator 3, and more.
  • Summer 2017 – Hosted a special COSMOTRONS event, held by the developer of the game who did a nationwide tour. We did purchase the game but eventually sold it off to another Utah operator.
  • 2019 – Began hosting some locally organized pinball tournaments, thanks to SLAP and others. This was our best year ever.
  • 2020 – We were forced to change our name from Game Grid Arcade to something else, even though we had registered the name long before a different company who had nothing to do with video games did. To avoid a lawsuit we could have won but couldn’t afford (especially during 2020), we changed our name to ARCADE GALACTIC.
  • October 2020 – Opened up our second location at the Newgate Mall in Ogden. We took some games from West Valley up there, while at the time there were some great deals on equipment that allowed us to offer some unique things up there, such as the aforementioned House of the Dead and Luigi games. Unfortunately business never managed to perform better than in West Valley and due to some other life circumstances, we closed this on the last day of 2022.
  • Summer 2022 – Got our hands on two prototype/early arcade games, purchased from the original creator of said titles: Toobin’ (1988) and Hydra (1990) by Atari Games. The Toobin has a serial number of 2; Hydra was “Proto #3” and looks different than the production version. That said, Hydra is exceedingly rare, with only 200 of those cabinets ever being produced. Both games were signed by the game designer, Dennis Harper
  • Winter 2023 – Furnished the arcade space for Beehive Meals‘ Christmas Party
  • Summer 2024 – Began beta testing two locally designed games, Asteroids Recharged and Avian Knights.

Thank you again for your support! We’ll see you at the arcade!
